A Business Opportunity

Developing Youth Enterprise in Belize through Institutional Capacity Building and Policy Support is a pilot initiative designed to support the formation of a sustainable Youth Business Trust with strong private sector links and innovative strategies such as a coherent mentoring and enterprise development assistance programme. The aim is to provide a sustainable solution that will enable talented young people to put their energy into the exceptional things that create a nation’s future and to reach out and take hold of new opportunities through viable Youth Entrepreneurship.

The initiative is being implemented by the Belize Business Bureau (BBB) and is initially being funded by the Youth Start Plan Ltd (YSPL), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the British Department for International Development (DFID) Small Grants Scheme.

To succeed in this programme and especially to build a national consensus, a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee has been established to identify the social, economic and technical challenges of implementing an institutional, non-governmental youth enterprise initiative. As an integrated initiative this pilot programme will complement and work in partnership with ongoing youth development initiatives such as Youth for the Future, YMCA, YWCA, Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rotaract and the Youth Enhancement Services agencies.

However a broad spectrum of national and private organizations must unite their efforts in bringing fruition to this vision of sustainable youth entrepreneurship.
