Youth Business International: Entrepreneur of the Year Competition 2006 |

Ten finalists were selected from over 50 case study entries submitted by the local youth business programmes around the world. They were chosen on the basis that they had shown creativity, innovation or courage, demonstrated personal integrity, leadership, outstanding performance or entrepreneurial spirit, initiated community involvement or had simply succeeded against the odds.

They were chosen on the basis that they had shown creativity, innovation or courage, demonstrated personal integrity, leadership, outstanding performance or entrepreneurial spirit, initiated community involvement or had simply succeeded against the odds. The ten finalists come from countries as diverse as India, Scotland, Canada, Barbados, Sri Lanka, Argentina and Kenya. All of our finalists started their businesses with the assistance of their local youth business programme. On Thursday 2nd November at the Island Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong the winner of the YBI Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 was revealed as Zablon Karingi Muthaka, Beta Bins Waste Management from Kenya. Our congratulations to Zablon and the Kenya Youth Business Trust. Zablon receives an award totalling the amount of his original loan and the remainder totalling US$5,000 will be given to KYBT to be used to issue further start-up loans to deserving young entrepreneurs. Zablon also receives 250 copies of his case study and an engraved plaque confirming his title of Youth Business International Entrepreneur of the Year 2006.
